“I took a deep breath, wondering why we are sometimes willing to tell secrets to stranger on trains that we would never tell to anyone else. I went ahead, anyway.”

Oh boy… I did not know what I was getting myself into with this one! This ripped my heart out, but in a really devastatingly lovely way? The Map That Leads to You follows Heather and her two friends on a graduation tour of Europe trip before they start their “real lives” in the fall. On a train to Amsterdam, Heather meets Jack- insanely handsome and charming, and their paths can’t stop crossing.

I think this is perfect for anyone who enjoyed Eat, Pray, Love or anything by John Green. As a lover of romance and travel, this captured my attention right away. The attention to detail in describing the different cities really immersed me into the story. I felt like I was traveling around Europe alongside them. It reads mostly YA, but don’t let that deter you. The writing style is really sweet. Some people may find the writing a little cringey (i.e. mom-a-saurus) but overall I found it charming.

A few parts in the middle dragged on for me a bit and at times the characters annoyed me with their miscommunication and immaturity. But then I had to remind myself, that these characters are young and inexperienced and their behavior really does make sense in this context. I adore all the characters, especially Heather and Jack. Their banter is unmatched and their love story is truly magical. Though it’s overall predictable, you really feel all of the emotions of the characters in here.

“Love finds us, passes through us, continues.”

It definitely will leave me with lots to think about! My biggest takeaway is to live more in the moment and live life to its fullest, even if you are afraid.
