Atlas of AI: Power, Politics, and the Planetary Costs of Artificial Intelligence by Kate Crawford

challenging informative reflective medium-paced

5.0

The book masterfully dispels the myths of a green, clean and fair AI sector by exposing the environmental and human costs that make AI magic possible. At times slightly repetitive, but an essential contribution to the topic that should be read by anyone even remotely involved or curious about AI (and the tech sector in general). The Atlas asks the tough questions the industry and academia refuse to acknowledge and goes deeper than the usual questions of ethics and arguments for more diverse training datasets. Read it and get ready to questions the power dynamics and exploitative assumptions behind AI magic.
