An African American and Latinx History of the United States by Paul Ortiz

4.0

My only reason for not giving this five stars is that I wish there was a bit more detailed explanation of certain topics throughout the book. As an example, I’d like to know more about the role of American banks in the development of Latin America which is only briefly touched on. I can see where it might be seen as a distraction from the main themes to delve into some of these details, but I suppose it does at least inspire me to read and learn more about it otherwise. Overall, I thought it presented an interesting perspective of the ways that African American and Latinx stories weave together and compliment/inspire each other, and I think it makes for a more powerful telling of American history to tell these stories in conjunction versus separately.
