This book was one heck of a rollercoaster ride. Given that there’s barely any info disclosed in the blurb except for the general premise, I didn’t really know what I was signing up for until I was already quite deep into it and bombarded with everything, which I don’t mind because low expectations/no predictability and all that but could also be overwhelming at some points. And the magical realism of the story makes it borderline bizarre to the point where I wondered whether it was just crack on print, but surprisingly by the end of it, there were some key messages so it wasn’t just a purely unserious work of fiction??? What an interesting book.
That said, the curiosity got me flipping the pages like my life depended on it but at the same time, I couldn’t take it seriously. I appreciated the lessons learnt since it also applies to me, but I didn’t really feel any strong emotional attachments to any characters. So in that sense, it was the best of both worlds, not necessarily in a good way.
