This would have been 5 stars if the book had focused more on the WW2 storyline. The section of the book from Minka’s perspective was brilliant and I found it more emotional and hard-hitting than any other books I’ve read about the Holocaust. The storyline with Sage was ok, but I found her a bit irritating as a character and the first 100 pages of the book seem to be in a completely different world to the rest of it. It started off as a dull chick flick and got progressively more serious and thoughtful toward the end with a twist I didn’t see coming. 4.5/5
