Agatha Raisin and the Dead Ringer by M.C. Beaton

2.0

Oh dear, this was not my favorite. Have listened to a good many Agatha Raisins with my sister over the years, and we've realized that neither the character nor plot has changed much in the decades Beaton has been writing them. Zero mention of mobile phones or internet at all this time around, all characters constantly getting engaged to people within weeks of dating them, etc. Only random mentions of the smoking ban and Brexit to give any indication that this isn't the 80s/90s. Completely unnecessary side plot of Agatha victim-blaming a woman in an abusive marriage. While it has been so nice to have a heroine detective of middle age and flaws, the stories she features in have grown too tired to be much fun.
