The Body Lies
by Jo Baker
The author at the center of this story is assaulted on the streets of London. She subsequently accepts a job teaching creative writing at a rural university to find a safer-feeling environment. But a homicidal predator soon has her in his sights. The interplay of fiction writing mechanics covered during her classes and the developments in her own life had me intrigued and excited for awhile. And the author's life depicted a number of stresses women are forced to juggle. But the pokes at academia were predictable, and the thriller aspects dominate the last third of the book, all but abandoning the connection to the creative writing process that drew me into the story.
