Shadows of the Workhouse
by Jennifer Worth
I know this book is part of a series, but it works well on its own as well. I did not know what to expect from it and was dreading a slow read and was so happily surprised how interesting it was! The storytelling is good and interesting and keeps the reader wanting to read more. The stories, on the other hand, are sad, some harsh with a glimpse of hope. It was so interesting to read about the stories from that period of time. You hear that it was a harsh time, but reading about it in such detail is different. This book got me laughing, it got me mad and it got me crying and it definitely left me wanting to read more!
