Panorama of Hell by Hideshi Hino

dark reflective sad medium-paced

3.75

The first few chapters pass over as nothing special, but after the portraits of the family are introduced had me engrossed through the rest of the story. Hino’s portrayal of the cyclical nature of violence and even the circumstances of his birth (coming to live in the wake of the bomb) is gruesome, depressing, and cruel. I’m surprised this hasn’t gained traction in recent years considering the themes, although the sheer amount of gore present might be why.
