This was a wonderful read. Reminded me very much of Anne of green gables and Emily of new moon by LM Montgomery. This author has a beautifully evocative way of writing about nature. Very much aimed at girls. All the main characters are girls. The best friends are so well written, reminiscent of Anne and Diana, also Emily and Ilsa, from the above mentioned books. One to cherish and read many times. I read the Ebook version but will purchase a  hardback copy for my library. I'm on to the next in the series straight away. Probably the best innocent girl friendship book I've read in a very long time. Highly recommended. No foul language or romance or anything unsavoury. Safe for children to read (and this middle aged reader) exquisite artwork throughout the book enhanced the  world building.
