Thank you to Edelweiss and T. H. Lehnen for this eARC.

Fog & Fireflies was a fantastical read set in a world where anything is possible. Magic is simultaneously all around our main character, and also sparse in the beginning of the novel when we learn about how her village runs. The fog surrounding them is a danger to them, but is also rife with magic. Apparently, anything is possible within the fog. While this is a fun and interesting premise, it also means the author has left themselves room to throw in any plot twists/developments they want and have it make sense. It never got too crazy, but there were moments where the twists were not so much surprising, but almost too easy.

Describing this as Hayao Miyazaki inspired is very accurate, and it was very fun to picture this as a Studio Ghibli film. The writing style is simple, and that makes for a fast-paced read, but I almost wish we got more imagery. I never felt truly immersed, though I always felt like I was watching the events unfold.

All this to say, this is a good book. It definitely falls on the side of YA (vs adult) fantasy, but is a fun read nonetheless.
