Just Haven't Met You Yet by Sophie Cousens
4.0
Reading this book was like turning on a favorite romantic-comedy movie. You know pretty much who the girl is going to end up with the end, but that doesn’t take away the fun. The ride is no less worthwhile, even if you can guess the destination.
That’s probably the best way to describe this one: worthwhile, absolutely worthwhile!
I do think some reviews have been a tad too harsh on Laura. I, for one, loved her. She does say things and take actions that may make one cringe— but they also make her regret and, in turn, grow. I loved seeing Laura’s growth throughout the story.
She is one weighed down by expectations. High expectations of love stories and of career success. Desperate to find love that is as (seemingly) magical as the fairytale romance between her late parents. Laura is so fixed on the shine of the story that she forgets to take care of the quality of content.
The central romance was so sweetly developed, the chemistry was naturally built—I could have continued reading this love story way past the final page. I loved them so!
If I could change anything it would be time. For a narrative dismantling the unrealistic expectations of love stories, I did think it felt rather out-of-character (out-of-narrative?) to have two people fall in love within 72 hours. Not that it can’t happen, but considering the rest of the story, I am not sure if I agreed with that choice. Nonetheless, this is a mere nitpick that doesn’t detract from the overall enjoyment of this one. Because I most definitely loved this story.
It was sweet, cute, funny, and very romantic.
I hope you all meet this book soon!
