A House for Alice
by Diana Evans
If only I had known this was a sequel. The characters make a little bit more sense now that I know that. The setting around the devastating fire of Grenfell is cleverly intertwined with the story of a father dying, leaving his children and widow scrambling through the ashes of their family home. But also: why do you need the backdrop of Grenfell for that? I couldn't care less for the marriage shenanigans of some of the children (which might have been different had I read "Ordinary People" which apparently focused on their drama first).
