Bull by R.J. Gray

5.0

I have been looking forward to Bull's story since we were first introduced to him earlier in the series and this book didn't disappoint. Bull and Veronica are wonderful together and I loved their interaction. This, like the other books in the series can be read as a standalone with its own HEA, but being familiar with at least some of the previous books would aid in your enjoyment. This is a wonderful story that you can easily get through in a few hours. As it stands, this book is absolutely worth 5*.
However, I believe this book could be better. I've been reading this author since 2019 when her books at that time were longer. This is an issue for me with a lot of authors. Romance readers, like me, are insatiable. We constantly want more from our authors and so, like fashion is dealing with fast fashion, we now have fast romance. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with wanting a relatively short, quick read that gives you that wonderful hit of dopamine to ease you through your day. So, we have to expect a trade-off. We get a quick turnaround of new stories from our favourite authors, accepting that theses books will be shorter, with not as much time spent on the relationship between the characters. There will be more instalove, less effort put into the situations surrounding the characters that don't directly affect the romance with the result being that sometimes the books and characters can feel rushed and shallow. Some authors make this transition better than others. RJ Gray is one of the better ones in that she is still, and probably will always be, one of my favoured authors, but I'm saddened in what we've lost in order to have our fast romance.
