as much as i enjoyed my third re-read, my rating remains unchanged. mostly because i think this book wasn’t really about penelope and colin as a couple, but more so about them as individuals. which wouldn’t be an issue normally, but this is a romance book is it not?

their progression from friends to lovers wasn’t really that interesting—it happened so easily that it didn’t feel like anything was at stake. one moment they were friends, the next thing we know, they were married.

one thing that is clear is that the whole lady whistledown thing completely eclipsed both of them. it was not about polin, or penelope or colin. it was about lady whistledown.

that’s why i’m glad the netflix show changed this aspect, because if they got the LW thing out of the way, then perhaps we’d see polin more fleshed out.
