The Walking Dead Vol. 4: The Heart's Desire by Robert Kirkman
4.0
Four books in and I'm still gripped. With this volume it feels like the series solidifies and 'arrives'. I'm increasingly suspicious of Rick, the main character, as he goes on a real power trip. I can't work out whether Kirkman wants the reader to side with Rick, or whether he'll keep it ambiguous. I hope the latter! I wonder about what possible redemption there could be in this story, where human beings are just hungry meat-machines, wither nothing to really differentiate between the living and the dead. I hope there's a light to be found somewhere, because if there isn't I'll lose the will to carry on. If there's no reason for the characters to keep on living, there won't be a reason for me to keep on reading.
