This is the first book of the Legends of Emyr series, and it provides a great introduction to the world. In this story, we follow Ronan as she leaves one found family and runs into another as she tries to figure out why people are fleeing from Tyrzen. What ensues is an emotional journey that forces Ronan to remember her past while fighting for the greater good.

I love everything about this book. The character development is on point. The worldbuilding is a steady drip that gives readers what they need to know when they need to know it without being overwhelming. The reality of the ending makes sense and is honestly what I would love to see more of in other fantasy books. All of the moving parts work together beautifully.

And then there’s Ronan, our main character. We truly feel every emotion she does, from remembering grief to her happiness. I love this aspect of any book I read, so this really added to my reading experience. Watching her and the MMC Corwin together is always fun. Their banter is great and watching them come to terms with their feelings is an enjoyable journey.
