It Goes Like This by Miel Moreland

5.0

4.5 rounded up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i really adored this book. almost that i'm tempted to push it to a 4.75 stars.

band dynamics? queer characters? love, love love? MUSIC?

i'm simplifying this too much, but honestly, i loved it goes like this. it makes me wish i was really, truly involved in a fandom (especially a fandom with members like moonlight overthrow.)

each of the characters were so absolutely BRILLANT to read from. i would make a comparison about another band here but honestly? i don't need to. for all i'm concerned, moonlight overthrow is a real band. was a real band.

maybe i read this right as i came out, but i love how it's set in 2021!! so recently!! i'm sure the later you read this you'll look back and think "oh, 2021? again?" but i really love that it was set and felt so real, so brilliant.
the book read so easily too. the chapters were always really short and sweet, no more then a few pages. and even if one character had like twenty pages to themselves, the chapters were split up into different parts which i found really interesting!
(eva, july 2021.) then you would turn the page and it would be (eva, july 2021.) or a break in between.
there was also fandom spaces between months where we got to see the fans opinions and i loved that. some books don't make fandom feel realistic, too much of something, but i feel like moreland nailed it just right.

there was so much to say but i loved this book. the discussions it invoked, how plainly loveable everyone was, the PLOT?! the music, the band, the book...it was amazing. great. i hope this book takes off because people need to read it.
