Avatar The Last Airbender: The Art of the Animated Series by Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino

5.0

After years of hearing my friends and peers gush about how wonderful Avatar: The Last Airbender is, this summer, I finally got around to seeing what the show was all about. Of course, I immediately fell in love with the detailed world building and multi-dimensional characters and ended up watching all 3 seasons in a week. It was one of the best and most intricate (both art and story wise) American cartoons I've ever watched. When I saw this book, I couldn't resist buying it and it was worth every cent it cost me.
This Art of Animation book is different from others I've read for several reasons.
Mainly because it is completely narrated by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the co-creators of the show. What makes Avatar, as a whole, so unique, is the fact that it wasn't created by some major production company. It was literally just two guys with a crazy idea.
Avatar: The Last Airbender - The Art of the Animated Series takes us through the whole process of creating the show. Everything from character creation to the animation process to creating promotional posters is covered in this book. It's absolutely fascinating to see how this show went from nothing to everything.
This book was incredibly detailed and contained and amazing amount stunning artwork. It was so much fun to read. This is a must-have for any major fan of the show.
