Fool Me Once by Ashley Winstead
5.0
I am a big fan of Ashley Winstead's thriller offerings, with The Last Housewife being one of my top books of the year in 2022, so when a friend kept telling me this was a great romance, I finally gave it a go. I am so glad I did.
I loved following the broken, crazy, wild character that was Lee Stone aka Stoner. Her friends and family, her awkward and entertaining work/personal relationship (and not relationship) with Ben, and her work life were all so real and easy to fall into reading about. The political commentary was both realistic and not so forcefully in your face that it's more politics than romance. The balance of what they did and who they were politically alongside their relationships and friends felt normal to me.
The writing style made Lee feel real and I connected with her on a lot of fronts. All the characters were easily relatable and I think most people can see little bits of themselves in at least one of the friend group.
This was a quick, addictive read that hit perfectly for Valentine's Day for me, and I'm so looking forward to Winstead's next romance novel due out this year.
