This book is perfect for when you feel caught up in everyday stresses and need a little perspective. The protagonist shows us humanity and mortality from an outsider’s perspective, whether we are laughing at his obsession with peanut butter or feeling moved by his reactions to companionship, music, love, and poetry. If you’ve seen the star trek episode where Q puts humanity on trial, there are some similar ideas here. The first third of the book was perhaps a little slow, but since it wasn’t long, I soon realized how much it had to offer. The humor kicked in right away!
Moderate: Suicide attempt and Infidelity
Minor: Murder
