Shadows at Dusk by Elizabeth Goddard

5.0

Elizabeth Goddard delivers a riveting, edge-of-your-seat suspense that kept me captivated from beginning to end. Painting a vividly detailed setting in the wild, Alaskan bush, Goddard has expertly crafted another beloved favorite romantic suspense!

The intense prologue grabbed my attention immediately and as I dove into the story, alternating POVs between main characters Carrie and Trevor, I found the pacing of this story to be fast and highly entertaining. There's action, secrets, suspense, romance and even some fun, lighthearted moments of conversation that I found heartwarming. The story is told well with moments of intensity, danger, mystery and a hint of terror. From a gruesome murder to a wild plane crash, to illegal gem mining and a photograph trail, Goddard won me over with this standalone novel set in the heart of Alaska.

I found both main characters to be well-developed, with their own personal backstories that were unique in their own way. Carrie's perseverance was admirable and I enjoyed the aspect of her remote living. I also enjoyed reading about a female bush pilot and even chuckled over Trevor's fear of flying, in the beginning. The connection between these two main characters took time but was rewarding in the end. Overall, I enjoyed their romance more than the first book in the series.

If you're a reader who loved a good suspense, especially ones set in the wilds of nature, you're going to love this novel! A definite five-star recommendation from me.
