Beautiful and wonderful story. In general I don’t like war time books but this is certainly a massive exception. Being told from a child’s point of view give it a lovely level of innocence, children are so much more accepting because they don’t have so many prejudices. A mute girl washed  ashore found by a father and son while fishing is deemed by the towns people to be a mermaid. The two children become friends without ever uttering a word to each other and show the towns people that it doesn’t matter if she’s German or not. Lovely from start to finish I was so intrigued to see how it would end and if it would ever come out who Lucy lost really is, rounded up well and did not disappoint.
