Alex Craft is a grave witch meaning she can raise shades of the dead and see ghosts, she's also been disowned by her family, so when her sister calls her crying and begging her to raise Coleman's shade to find out what happened to him. Alex caves and calls her police friend to see if she can get a look at him and her friend agrees but only if she raises the shade of his latest victim because he's getting nowhere with IDing her. Things don't exactly go as planned though, murder, mayhem and madness ensue.
I really liked Alex, I especially liked that there is a cost for using her powers, calling her grave magic has left her night blind and occasionally just blind altogether. There is some brief steaminess in the story but Alex is a hit it and quit it instead of a relationship kind of girl. I'm glad I liked this because I bought the first 3 books all at once at least now I don't have to wait to read the next one.
