I was a bit hesitant to read this because I'm not super familiar with One Tree Hill (outside of the first few seasons), but I'm so glad I gave it a chance! If you have the same apprehensions as me, rest assured that Joy doesn't really get into much One Tree Hill stuff at all- which is probably a bit disappointing if you're a fan and are looking for behind-the-scenes tea. This book title should be reversed to say "Life in an Actual Cult (While Also on a Cult TV Show)" because that's really how it's structured.

I found Joy's perspective on things so interesting, and as we follow along with her from meeting the religious group to becoming entangled emotionally, romantically, and financially, it's clear to see how so many people are taken advantage of by groups like this. I especially enjoyed listening to this as an audiobook, as there is clearly so much emotion behind Joy's story that she is able to convey with her voice (and there are a few fun guest appearances, too!). A vulnerable, honest read, even if you’ve never watched a single episode of One Tree Hill.
