The Originals: The Loss
by Julie Plec
Once again: Julie Plec did not actually write this book. It’s credited to her, but it was actually written by a ghost writer.
This book was far more intense in a story sense than the previous one, though I actually prefer the first in this trilogy. Set forty years after the events of the first book, New Orleans is now under Spanish control, but with the Spanish king’s lack of interest on the city, the Mikaelsons have taken over as rulers with Elijah heading up the group.
Klaus is still mourning the (spoilers for book one) death of his beloved Vivianne, and is secretly making strides to bring her back to life with the help of the witches, headed up by Lily, who have a secret plan of their own. His success with this comes with a price that will force Elijah and Rebekah to clean up his mess, and make him eventually realize he can’t have everything he wants.
I may read this again in the future, but there’s still one more book in the series to get through along with the good handful of other books I’m reading at the moment. If you enjoyed the first one, you will enjoy this one equally so.
