The Best Thing by Mariana Zapata
5.0
I think my new goal is to finish Zapata's books in a two weeks or so. I am a sucker for kids in stories, but this one is really cute. I loved that Lenny wasn't a pushover. No she was angry, she was hurt, and she won't give a damn about anyone's shit. Bust she's also a real person, an authentic one. And it takes one to know one. And she knew Jonah was real. He was honest. Yeah, he did her shit, but he was also human.
And I think that was the main reason that I like Zapata's story. She made every character of her relatable. Even Noah. Yes. And the deadbeat grandma. We can't be perfect and sometimes, we don't need to listen to the other person who was just doing things so they wouldn't be the bad person.
Jonah was real. And so was Peter and Grandpa Gus. Mo was hilarious. Have I said it enough? It really is the best thing!
