Bed Me, Earl by Felicity Niven
5.0
I was so invested in this book, and I really wished I was doing a buddy read so I could have squealed about my thoughts as I was going through it! Since I didn't, I started keeping notes to myself starting at about 10% in, and mostly about the characters, their development and relationship progression. I mean, what else would I review??? So I treat you all to my ramblings as copied from my notes - warning, some may consider it spoilery......

.She’s, taller than him, he’s prematurely grey and has a small belly and glasses for reading. Love it.
• How refreshing to have the hero be “meh, I guess I have to marry her now”
• Instead of being a rake avoiding marriage. He seems to be a rake thinking -I’m 35, it’s my friends sister, it’s a suitable match, let’s get it done.
• “Not at all offensive to marry you”. How romantic Romeo
• Caro is simply a woman who does not smile. I feel this in my bones.
• Phin is so optimistic and shallow and naïve. Sees the absolute best in everyone. Doesn’t consider much their perspective.
• Referring to himself in the 3rd person - really??? No wonder people think him arrogant.
• What a jerk!!! Edging her to extort acceptance of marriage. And to think I really liked him and thought he was a good guy.
• Her world view truly is skewed if she thinks desire is a bad reason to agree to marriage
• She just wants a friend! He can be her friend!
• He gave her her childhood dream of dancing all night and not speaking!
• He gives her what she wants, and she notices, like wearing the spectacles on the wedding night
• I love her taking charge and putting him in his place because of his own stupidity
• Ahhh I hurt for Phin! “At least you need me for something “. Poor guy thinks he’s only being used for his body because she has always been so concerned with herself and she doesn’t know how to see him outside of sex or to talk to him.
• The development of Phin from shallow and only interested in his own hedonism to caring so deeply for Caro and her troubled past. Before her, he wouldn’t have cared about anyone beyond surface.
Also, I clocked how the book begins and ends with them having an intimate encounter, and the contrast between the scenes. Its full circle, but they've changed so much!!
There's also a second epilogue available from the author's newsletter, which I have downloaded and will be devouring ASAP!!
Thanks so much to the author for allowing me the privilege to read an advanced copy. Can't wait for the next one!
