This book was so good. I've seen a lot of people write it off because it's his debut novel, but I loved it. It was a perfect fantasy book in my mind. The political drama was so well done, and was my favorite part. I loved seeing the different plots move and I loved the differing POVs we got. Hrathen's scheming was so fascinating. But Sarene became a new favorite character, I really related to her inner struggles and I loved seeing how her mind worked.
My favorite part of this book was definitely Raoden. I LOVED his POV chapters. His positivity and optimism really endeared me to him.
I loved the worldbuilding and the magic system. Brandon Sanderson is so creative. The setting kept me so enthralled! I had a really hard time getting into Stormlight Archive and Mistborn, but I think his stand alones are for me! I've loved all of them!
I can't wait for book two and three. I want more of this world and a deeper exploration of the magic system.
