Mad as a Hatter by Kendra Moreno

3.0

So I went into this blind. I should have known by the cover alone it was a spicy book.

The plot: Clara is prophesied to come to wonderland and overthrow the Red Queen. The Red Queen is Allison, who was thrown into an asylum after she left wonderland. Allison returns to wonderland for revenge and starts killing. To overthrow the Red Queen, Clara must be with the son of wonderland, Hatter, and defeat the knave.

This book is imaginative and the author did a great job creating wonderland. I am a horror fan so the gore appealed to me. However, the characters lacked depth. I couldn’t tell you anything about Clara, except that she’s an attorney. I don’t know what makes the Hatter mad, he didn’t do anything crazy. I don’t normally read smut, so I don’t know if character development is important.

The book went heavy on the spice 19 chapters in and the plot was lost. There could have been a really good story here.

If you like slow burn and spice, I recommend this book.

This just isn’t my normal cup of tea *pun intended*
