Every Dead Thing by John Connolly
4.0
Another review to shoot into the void… this will be a short review
This book was a bit of a chore to get through at times but I really, really, enjoyed my time with it. I loved the characters, I loved the way the inner monologue is written, it was all so delectably noir. Charlie is such an interesting protagonist, he is not 100% likeable, has a lot of biases and contradictions but I still found myself rooting for him.
The story is VERY compelling, but my god is it hard to follow at times. Everything does come together in the end, but it almost feels like diving into a fractal shape where it just keeps going deeper and deeper, but at the end of the day you do come back to the surface and all the seemingly meandering flashbacks and side stories do come to fruition. The final mystery and reveal had me dropping my kindle.
Idk what more to say, it took me so long to read it and then so “long” to write this review that the stronger emotions have left my brain. I will definitely go back into this series though, especially since the books get seemingly a little bit more supernatural as they go.
Speaking of reviews, not that many people care, but this might be the last I write for a while. Not much discussion gets generated for the amount of effort and “pressure” I put into these (admittedly not much into this review, but the last couple of ones). I think I’d rather just keep a personal book journal and just use good reads as my TBR list for when I’m out book shopping. It was fun though!
