The Happy Hour Choir by Sally Kilpatrick
3.0
I enjoyed this book far more than I expected to. I was intrigued immediately by the cover and the description but I was hesitant to read it because I was not looking for read religious fiction. Fortunately for me, this was a wonderful tale about faith, friendship, and community; but it should be said, if you are looking to read something that might be categorized as Christian fiction, this is not that book. This book tells a story of life in the south (which often offers up a heavy dose of church and faith) and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
Being a first-time author, I wasn't sure what to expect from Sally Kilpatrick but after The Happy Hour Choir, I would definitely read more of her work. The main character, Beulah, is a well-rounded firecracker and I was instantly taken in by her story. The book does not necessarily offer up any unexpected twists but it is an engaging tale that I would definitely recommend to others.
