This book was okay, but it's definitely the worst Patricia C. Wrede book I've read so far. It lost a lot of the charm of the first Sorcery & Cecelia book and apparently replaced it with a confusing plot and an array of flat side characters. I was never quite sure what was going on-- only that I wished it would get to the point. A lot of the same quirks of the first book were included in this one, too, like an intriguing magic system and fun historical references. If it had been half as long I likely would have enjoyed it twice as much.
