Shadows by John Saul
3.0
More sci-fi than horror. This is my first John Saul book, so I'm not sure if that's his thing or if this was an exception to the rule.
Shadows starts out like a TV afterschool special: super-smart kid is constantly picked on at school, gets depressed and suicidal. Single mom working hard, trying her best to support him. All hope seems lost before they learn of a school for super-smarties.
The plot takes a while to develop, but the last 200 pages or so are a fun ride.
