Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter by Randy L. Schmidt

4.0

I grew up listening to the Carpenters' music because my mum loved them and Karen's voice is unique and special. I've been intrigued and interested in her story, knowing how she died and her problems with anorexia.
This was a thoroughly interesting read. The prologue sets the book up as unauthorised and the reason behind the animosity between any writer, and the family. That being said, there was no issue with fact finding and interviews with her closest friends, which helps the writer to be truthful here. It is a factual biography, with no bias against the family although Agnes Carpenter (her mother) does not come off well in this book!
Anorexia took a lovely voice away too soon. Looking at photos of her final years, you wouldn't believe she died at 32. An interesting read for anyone wanting to know more about the life and work of Karen Carpenter. 4/5
