The Captain's Daughter by Alexander Pushkin

challenging dark emotional medium-paced

2.0

The novel exposes Russian Serfdom of that time through fictional retelling of Pugachev’s rebellion. Central theme is love story, but Pushkin highlights Pugachev’s beheading and serfdom.Pushkin’s own inability dis announce serfdom and not interesting main characters doesn’t help his work. On other hand Pugachev seems like real person, with his ambitions and dreams that end in tragedy. I guess thanks for kind of supporting anti-serfdom.
