O Caledonia by Elspeth Barker

Did not finish book. Stopped at 29%.
I just couldn't continue with this book, even though it's so incredibly short. The protagonist was completely unbearable. It felt like Barker was taking for granted that we would just agree that the conventions of the time are so bad that it's good a young girl is acting against them without doing any work to justify them. And the MC was so inconsistent.
For example, she takes great pleasure in her cat's hunting and coos over the dead things the cat has collected, but refuses to eat after seeing a rabbit killed and butchered.
In the end, I just don't want to be in the head of a person who admits that they've done wrong and feels bad for being in the wrong but makes no attempt at improving.
