A Game of Ghosts
by John Connolly
Thought this was very well done and is showing that things seem to be coming to a head with Charlie Parker and crew.
"A Game of Ghosts" follows Charlie after he is asked by Agent Ross to look into the disappearance of another PI named Jaycob Eklund. Ross won't say what Eklund was looking into for him, but he uses this potential case to demand that Charlie turn over the pages that he has from the list that he obtained back in [b:The Wrath of Angels|13274077|The Wrath of Angels (Charlie Parker, #11)|John Connolly|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1341835369l/13274077._SY75_.jpg|18478066]. Charlie, Angel, and Louis investigate and realize that Eklund was an odd man. And he seemed to be gathering information on a group called the Brethren. When Charlie steps too close though, an old adversary and reluctant partner now gets involved as well. There is also some movement going on with Charlie's ex, Rachel, and their daughter Sam.
Charlie seems so passive in the last few books I think. It's weird to me to see how he went from a man on fire in the first book, to someone who seems to be watching and waiting. We also have him dealing with the real possibility he won't be allowed to be with Sam ever again after the events in the last book.
Speaking of Sam, we have more information about her then ever before and have some inkling of what she can and cannot do.
I honestly liked Charlie's conversation with Rachel's dad in this one and I think for once we get more of an idea about this character besides him just being the guy who dislikes Charlie.
We have Louis and Angel who are great. And then we have the Collector.
So in this one I though that the book did move a bit slowly at times, but everything ultimately worked. The idea behind this group was interesting and I liked how it was incorporated into the larger story of the list and what Charlie is supposed to be preventing. I did not see the ending coming though with the reveal and shook my head.
