A Fortune-Teller Told Me: Earthbound Travels in the Far East by Tiziano Terzani

2.0

Imagine a fortune teller telling you not to travel by plane for an entire year ... and deciding to listen? That's the premise that convinced me I should give this book a read ... however I have to admit that I was disappointed.

Terzani felt like he was writing newspaper articles about the history of different Asian countries, about the Chinese desire to escape their past and become Western and very rich. Whenever I would get frustrated with his stories however, he would give us a snippet into an experience traveling in Burma or taking the trans-Siberian train from Mongolia to Poland. Those travel stories are what kept me reading - however I found that he spent more time lamenting about the Chinese taking over all of Asia; and I got a little tired of all his visits to different fortune tellers in different countries.

A blah read, which is so unfortunate.
