Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare

4.0

This book felt like a Cassandra Clare YA book with the info dumping of a high fantasy story. Whether that is a good thing or not that is up to you.

I personally quite enjoyed it. I will be honest, the first 200 pages are full of clonky info dumping, making it feel VEEEERY slow. But once it gets going? There were moments where I was gasping outloud.

Of the two POVs presented, Connors was clearly the most interesting. The castle politics were intriguing, and had me on my toes. I love messy royals. Connor also felt like the more interesting of the characters, although he was very clearly inspired Jace from the shadowhunters.

Lins POV was the weakest point. The Ashkar people felt incosequantial until the end, and were the least developed aspect. I wanted to understand more about their society (other than they being sexist) and the magic of it all. Lins storyline (and therefore the Ashkar's) felt like it was absorbed by the castle politics and not given the attention they deserved. As a character Lin felt very "not like other girls", which was not as endearing as I guess it was meant to be.

Regardless I cannot wait for the next book because the last 100 pages had me HOOKED. Four stars (may be updated later in the year).
