I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

3.0

I had a hard time reading this book because the writing was often choppy and difficult to follow. I had to read and reread passages to make sure I didn’t miss anything. That having been said, it’s not necessarily badly written or anything like that, I definitely loved some of the prose, but it was just difficult.

I also did really like the story and the way it was split between Jude and Noah’s perspective at different points in time. There were some really heart-wrenching moments, especially in the latter half. I did not however like the characters too much. I definitely preferred reading Noah’s chapters over Jude’s, especially when Jude was going on and on about Oscar (who is the personification of cliche bad boy in cheesy romance novels). I wished we got more from Noah or at least a glimpse from the twins at the different ages (Noah at 16 and Jude at 13/14) but alas there’s story telling in the pages that are not written.

I think I might re-read this later to see if I can come to love it a bit more.
