Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales by Jacob Grimm

5.0

This collection of 211 German folk tales is intense, gritty, and more than a bit macabre; full of myth, magic, murder, revenge, justice, and morality. Although many of titles within are well known around the world, many folks would scarcely recognize them in their original form. These tales have been edited over and over again through the years, to sanitize them for a more sensitive readership, however this edition is certainly no Disneyland interpretation; this is raw folk lore at it's best! The heroes/heroines in these tales suffer through blood, sweat, and tears (often literally) to persevere and it pulls no punches, nor makes any apologies. The vivid imagery grabs you and takes you through incredible journeys with passion and fervor and needs no illustrations. It's hard to stop once you get started.

This was one of the first books ever gifted to me (technically, given to my mother for me, as I was an infant at the time) and has remained one of the most dear and beloved classics of my collection. The stories within have enchanted me since early childhood and it's my pleasure to be able to share these with my own children now.
