Samskara: A Rite for a Dead Man
by U.R. Ananthamurthy
A book truly from the sixties. Full of outrage with Brahmins' notions of their own superiority, small mindedness, petty greed and jealousies. Especially while the plague is literally sweeping through. It is interesting that women are always in the background as shrews, objects of lust or in Chandri's case a combination of sainthood and sensuality. That said, it is moving at times and funny at the same time.
