Baby Doll by Hollie Overton

3.0

In this novel we get the story beginning with the escape of Lily. She's been held captive for years, had a child with her rapist and endured unimaginable abuse (which we thankfully don't get lots of detail about).
What we focus on here is how Lily copes once she returns to 'normal' life.
While this was a really interesting idea, and I was quite gripped by it during reading, there are definitely too many things going on and this reduces the impact.
I felt the relationship between Lily and her sister was well-portrayed, but a lot got thrown in and didn't always add to the experience.
The ending-where Lily gets her almost normal-was rather optimistic, but it needed to be as the rest of the book was so bleak.
Thanks to NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
