It started nice but then little by little, it started going downhill unfortunately. Things began to fall apart at the seams and it all became a mess.
The worst happened in the beginning of the second half of the book. I guessed pretty quickly who would be the 'bad guy' but the whole big reveal still didn't make much sense to me. It felt like a whole chunk of the story was missing with how sudden the reveal was. There were not enough clues that something like that would happen and the buildup was not enough.
Like, where is the explanation, where is the continuity? Some weird things are suddenly possible and I'm just supposed to buy that? No way in hell.
The confrontation in the end was a mess too, I got lost too many times and had no idea why and how those things happened.
(Or maybe I'm just too stupid to get it, idk.)
Also. Ewww, magic. I hate this word so much. Curses I can maybe accept but not magic. Nope.
Now about the writing. The story didn't flow very well and the scenes didn't connect with each other in the right way. The style itself was not great either and the way the author used their words wasn't very impressive. The characters were poorly developed and I didn't care about them at all (besides Marigold, she was pretty nice).
Also. A slow burn where the first kiss happens at the beginning of the second half of the FIRST BOOK of the series? Weak. That's not a fvcking slow burn. It wasn't even a burn since the main couple had no chemistry together. Like, not at all. I'm not even kidding. There was no connection between them and I didn't feel like they even properly knew each other.
I'm dissappointed. Again.
