Pictures Or It Didn't Happen by Sophie Hannah

4.0

This is a decent novella that you could read in one or two sittings. In these days of online scam artists and everybody being a self-proclaimed expert on all sorts of psychological conditions, such as high-functioning psychopathy, in a way it strikes a cautionary note about jumping to conclusions about people. In that sense, the book has a bit of the morality tale feel to it, but in an enjoyable sort of a way. It is definitely interesting and insightful about how pathological liars operate when they try to smear people in workplaces and life generally, but as a novella the book is a little too brief to explore the reasons why some people do twisted and destructive things to others in their vicinity. There are aspects of it that are slightly implausible, such as how quickly the romantic relationship in the novella moves to marriage, but perhaps they're only implausible to my own overly cautious nature. Definitely worth a read if you like novellas. If you prefer to get your teeth into long blockbusters, it may not be your cup of tea.
