moonmittens 's review for:
A Doll's House
by Henrik Ibsen
This should have been a quick and easy read but I went through it at very small clips during the course of an entire vacation. This was lent to me by a friend and came highly recommended, but unfortunately I’m not into reading plays and especially not a fan of this one.
There was something unsettling about the book that had me expecting some kind of horrifying twist that never came, ultimately leaving me feeling disappointed. I didn’t connect with any of the characters at all and found them quite annoying.
I can appreciate how this might have been a revolutionary story for its time, but I don’t think it holds up. I think I would enjoy a more modern re-telling, but these ideas, themes, and tropes pop up in contemporary stories all the time and at this point it wouldn’t feel very original.
