The Japanese Lover
by Isabel Allende
This was a mess.
What I really don't like is when a writer tries to manipulate with the audience. The older lady whose life we follow was just plainly a narcissist, but the author tries to present her like something special, no she was not. So basically she doesn't want to marry the love of her life because she wants to live a life in a rich family, because this woman got Standards, and she marries... Drum roll... Her Cousin (who is gay). Then she starts a life long sexual relationship with the man she loves, who of course marries another woman and has children. Yeah..no.
