I gave this a go and yes...I'm in awe and awfully stimulated - on a mental level which is good. I thought the world-building was well-written, and the details were fantastic without them being too confusing. It was very clear from beginning to end; intriguing, captivating, unique, and thought-provoking.

I'm afraid I signed myself up for a long mission to get through the cosmere. The complexity of this world is something I am looking forward to discovering (slowly).

However, I must say that this book has its flaws - from my humble point of view. What fell a bit flat for me were some of the characters including Vin, who were shallowly outlined and didn't make an impression on me. Even Kell, although likable in the first 2/3 of the book has left me with a meh feeling and this is defo not what I want from my fantasy reads. I want to FEEL! Like really, I want to get excited about a character and then absolutely destroyed if they die or change course. I couldn't connect with Vin, Kell or Elend - and not to speak about the romance - Oh my gawd, I get it's not the point of the whole narrative but c'mon this could've been written so much better. Vin came across as pathetic and jumped straight to LOVE?! wtf - I hope her character remembers how badass she is and that she still has a backbone in the next books...

Bottom line is - a good book but missing the emotional aspect so many readers crave.

Make us fall in love with the characters, believe in their wars, and understand their inner turmoil. I need to be either hating or loving characters - especially the main ones - with a passion! unfortunately with this book, they weren't convincing enough and left me feeling very indifferent towards the FMC & MMC which I hate when it happens because GOOD books are meant to kick you in the gut with all the feels...
