⭐️After a little bit of thought, I’ve decided that I *will* give this book five stars, because nothing is perfect but things may come close, right? (Right?)

🐉 To start, I was immediately enamored by the concept of the story. I’ve always been drawn to dark themes, gore, and violence, but the romance and family loyalty and friendship ties it all together so nicely.

🔪 I was a little concerned at the start when Juliet seemed like she would be one of you typical YA “badass female protagonist”, but despite her cold introduction, the reader learns more about why she is the way that she is, and her ruthless choices seem plausible within their circumstances. Not only for her, but Roma as well. Though I think Juliet’s development had a bit of a stronger focus, both characters had very detailed and understandable internal conflicts that changed and grew through the story. And I love that!!
Another high note: the romance was a wild rollercoaster and left my heart completely in a daze.

🥀 A few low points: the beginning was slow, and the plotline dragged in places. Because I am a quick reader, this didn’t bother me too much, but I can see how this may trouble readers who take a little longer to read. Personally, I was very invested in the plotline so the slow pacing didn’t bother me all that much.
I’ve been searching for a book like this for a while: driven by politics with that small fantastical element? ✨ perfect for me, but I can understand why it might not be for others.

💔 There’s so many things I could add here, but to sum in up: I’m terrified for the sequel, but totally ready to have my heart broken again.
